Mercedes Diesel engine Specs, Bolt torques and manuals. Many ADE Engines were made under licence to Mercedes, and are mostly identical engines that enjoy the same parts and procedures as Mercedes OM engines. Click for Mercedes Diesel Engine Manuals, bolt torques, specs. The engine has differing trim and power levels, affording designations such as OM 352A a variant fitted with a turbocharger, or the OM352 LA, which is fitted with an intercooler and a turbocharger. (List of Mercedes-Benz engines.) The engine is water-cooled, and is produced using cast-iron cylinder block, with cast-in cylinders. Briggs & Stratton powers 8/10 US lawn mower brands. Learn more about small engines and shop for Briggs engine parts, generators & outdoor power products. The Mercedes OM 422 A/LA Turbo sits in the exhaust flow of the exhaust system. The high stress caused by extreme temperatures and soot particles leads to restrictions in functional safety. In particular, there are more frequent failures of the VTG adjustment on the Audi Mercedes OM 422 A/LA Turbo. This manual covers service and overhaul of the Mercedes Benz OM441, OM442, OM443, OM444 diesel engine. It includes detailed specs, illustrations and service procedures to guide the mechanic with correctly repairing the diesel engine to the manufacturer’s specifications.
All Mercedes vehicles made since 1959 come with a number stamped onto their engine block that will tell you just about everything you need to know about the car (this number matches the VIN).
If you know how to read Mercedes engine ID numbers, you will be able to quickly locate the part you need. Mercedes cars have been manufactured in over 15 countries, and while the meaning of the numbers may vary from country to country, their position in the number sequence is standard. Knowing what part of the engine ID number to enter into a parts search engine is half the battle to finding the correct piece for your engine.
Open the hood of your Mercedes. Locate the stamped engine ID number on the top or side of the engine block, towards the rear of the engine.
The letter or letters that begin the engine ID number indicate the style of motor (sedan, touring, roadster and so on). See the chart listed in the resources below for a comprehensive definition of the letters and their meaning.
The first three numbers correspond to the type of engine that you have (diesel, oil and such). For example, an M116 type engine would have an engine ID number that begins with '116' and an M114 type engine would begin with '114.'
The next three numbers indicate what version of motor it is (i.e. 2.2 lt, 2.3, 6 cyl, 8 cyl and so on). One type of motor may have many different possible versions.
The next two numbers will tell you where the engine was installed, what side driving it was for (left or right) and the type of transmission associated with it. After 1983, the second number in this set was replaced with a letter. A series of letters (like A,B,C,D,E) was assigned to each factory.
The remaining set of numbers is the specific serial number of your engine.
Tip: always verify that the number stamped on the engine block matches the VIN number attached to the frame of the car. If the engine has been replaced with a different model and you just refer to the VIN, you could waste time and money getting parts that will not work.

The engine series OM 421, OM 422, OM 423 and OM 424 replaced the earlier 401-404 series of diesel engines with 6 to 12 cylinders in V-arrangement . These newly designed second generation motors were release in 1980 and included larger volume and increased horsepower with turbocharged and intercooler features boosting their performance.
The OM422 diesel engine manufactured by Mercedes-Benz is a four-stroke V-8 cylinder engine with a volume of 14618 cubic centimeters, corresponding to 875 cubic inches.
It belongs to a series of engines - 400, which added a series of 300 and began to develop in 1969. Specifically, the OM 422 was released in 1980 and replaced the predecessor - OM 402 A, with a similar V8-cylindrical design which produced 155 hp.
The entire series is as follows:
These engines belong to 400 series and designed taking into account the environmental norms Euro II. OM422 engine was the first diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz for heavy commercial vehicles, which was equipped with intercooler.
OM422 engines are very popular and widely used since the early 1990s in road engineering and average tonnage trucks. OM 422 is also used in combine harvesters, in particular, in the combine harvester CLAAS Commandor 116 CS
